Everyday activity

In the Youth Media the rule is that by doing one learns.

The activity may be shooting video, recording, cooking, reporting - anything. By practice one will learn to create with chosen equipment, take care of the said equipment and to create social relationships as well as to co-operate with teammates.

To meet the young as a young person, to give artistic freedom and personal space is our mission. Technical assistance is given on the ground level. Learning happens on the trial-and-error principle. But also we sometimes leave the camera alone and discuss the various everyday problems. We chat easily about the positive things and listen the latest jokes gladly.

Continuity of things is our part in the play. The batteries must be charged. We repair and renovate everything that is possible to us. We buy second-hand stuff, take contributions and clean the place together. The information is given through E-mail or the Web. The computers are used to the last point possible until replaced. We proudly present the antique Atari game consoles and Commodore computers with accessories.

There are three computer units ready for instant use for 3-D modelling, photo and sound processing. The software includes i.g.3-D max and Adobe Photoshop 6.

The on-line live multimedia broadcasts are produced from the separate Gloria estrade. The happening is on the stage, cameras are running and the director is directing. Through the internet the broadcast can be seen everywhere in the world - complete with sound.

Evening happenings are organized once a month. Various artists will attend accompanied by instructed multi-camera coverage and debating about the specific matter in relaxed atmosphere. Everything goes on improvised together with the largest possible audience. As a rule these evening happenings are free of alcohol & drugs. This goes for the other activities also.

We tour the various events around the year and report about them. Happenings organized by the Helsinki City Youth Department include Dance Action, Juvenile Culture, Sound and Frenzy, the KaisaniemiPop concert and others. Local happenings are Urmas, Asphalt Trembles etc. Also the large happenings of the city don't go unattended.

There are a few annual weekend camps on the island of Bengtsår near the Hanko peninsula. These are held in the spirit of recreation and rest in the nature - combined with media productions. On the weekends various creations emerge, including short films as well as cooking shows. Sauna, swimming, sleeping and eating complete the program. The personnel don't function as servants, everything is done together.

Movies are viewed at the opening nights. The widescreen video projector and the 5.1 surround sound system provide hefty sounds for the youngs' own movies, complete with the biggest cinemasofas in the town - guaranteed. Occasionally commercial dvd-movies are shown, but not of the very latest.

The cafeteria works with help-your-self manner against a formal payment.
